permanent collections
Museum's core works
Permanent collections are the artworks, artifacts, or objects that a museum or institution owns outright, as opposed to items on temporary loan for special exhibitions.
These holdings form the core of an institution's identity and mission: The Met's permanent collection spans five thousand years of art.
Works may rotate in and out of display, but they remain permanently in the institution's possession.
