pearlite
Layered steel phase
Pearlite is a layered microstructure found in steel and cast iron, consisting of alternating bands of ferrite and cementite.
The name comes from its pearl-like luster under a microscope.
Pearlite forms when carbon steel cools slowly, giving the metal a balance of hardness and ductility that makes it useful for rails, wire, and structural applications.
