paper wasps
Umbrella nest builders
Paper wasps are social wasps that build nests from a papery material made by chewing wood fibers mixed with saliva.
The nests hang from eaves, branches, or sheltered spots, with exposed hexagonal cells visible from below.
Paper wasps are slimmer than yellowjackets and less aggressive, stinging mainly when their nest is threatened.
