over-accommodation
Too much adjustment
Over-accommodation is adjusting too much to someone else's perceived needs or limitations, often in ways that feel patronizing.
A speaker might slow down excessively or oversimplify when talking to a non-native speaker or elderly person: The nurse's over-accommodation made my grandmother feel infantilized.
The term appears in linguistics and communication studies to describe well-meaning behavior that backfires.
