out of one's mind

Lost all reason

Out of one's mind describes a state of extreme irrationality or mental disturbance.

Someone who is out of their mind has lost the capacity for reasonable thought, whether temporarily or permanently: You'd have to be out of your mind to swim in that current.

The phrase often expresses disbelief at another's judgment: Are you out of your mind?

It can also intensify emotions: out of my mind with worry, bored out of my mind.
