on-side
Backing your team
On-side describes a player in a legal position according to the rules of a sport—not offside.
In soccer, a player receiving the ball is on-side if at least two opponents are between them and the goal line.
In hockey, a player enters the attacking zone on-side by not preceding the puck.
The term extends figuratively to mean supportive or in agreement: We need to get the board on-side before announcing the merger.
