oil splatter
Hot fat droplets
Oil splatter is the spray of hot cooking oil that jumps from a pan during frying, often causing minor burns or leaving greasy spots on surfaces.
The phenomenon occurs when water in food hits hot oil and instantly vaporizes: I got oil splatter all over the stovetop.
Splatter screens help contain it.
