nothing ventured

Playing it safe

Nothing ventured is the first half of the proverb "nothing ventured, nothing gained"—you can't achieve anything without taking risks.

The truncated form works as a shrug acknowledging that a failed attempt was still worth making: I asked her out and she said no, but nothing ventured.

Sometimes used before taking a chance: Nothing ventured—here goes.
