A nit-picker is someone who focuses on trivial faults or minor details, often to an annoying degree.
The term comes from the literal removal of nits (louse eggs) from hair—painstaking work requiring attention to tiny things.
A nit-picker finds small errors others overlook or ignore: Every office has a nit-picker who flags typos in casual emails.
