muggled
Fumbled through incompetence
Muggled describes something that has been tampered with, damaged, or rendered ineffective—typically by someone ignorant of its purpose or value.
The term comes from geocaching, where a hidden cache is said to be muggled when discovered and disturbed by non-players (muggles, borrowed from Harry Potter's term for non-magical people).
Someone muggled the cache—the logbook is gone.
The word has spread to other contexts where outsiders unwittingly ruin something meant for initiates.
