miscounted
Got numbers wrong
Miscounted is the past tense of miscount—to count incorrectly, arriving at the wrong total.
The error can go either direction: I miscounted the ballots and had to start over, She miscounted the guests and ordered too few chairs.
Someone who miscounted made an honest arithmetic mistake, not a deliberate falsification.
