mild cognitive impairment
Pre-dementia mental decline
Mild cognitive impairment is a condition in which memory, thinking, or other mental abilities decline noticeably but not severely enough to interfere significantly with daily life.
It occupies middle ground between normal age-related cognitive changes and dementia: Her doctor diagnosed mild cognitive impairment after she began forgetting appointments.
Often abbreviated MCI.
Some people with the condition progress to Alzheimer's or other dementias; others remain stable or improve.
