match penalty
Game suspension consequence
A match penalty is the most severe penalty in ice hockey, resulting in immediate ejection from the game and typically carrying an automatic suspension.
It's assessed for deliberate attempts to injure an opponent or for particularly dangerous conduct: He received a match penalty for slashing a player in the head.
The penalized team plays shorthanded for five minutes.
