macabre humor
Death-tinged jokes
Macabre humor finds comedy in death, suffering, or other morbid subjects.
It treats grim topics—corpses, disease, violence—with irreverence or absurdity rather than solemnity.
The approach can be a coping mechanism for those who work around death, or simply a taste for darkness: The mortician's macabre humor unsettled the new assistant.
Also called black humor or gallows humor.
