lucky jersey
Athlete's ritual shirt
A lucky jersey is a piece of athletic clothing believed to bring good fortune to its wearer, typically kept unwashed during a winning streak.
The superstition extends beyond professional athletes to devoted fans who wear the same jersey on game days: I can't wash my lucky jersey until the playoffs are over.
The belief reflects the broader human tendency to find patterns and assign causation to coincidence.
