leafbuds
Foliage in waiting
Leafbuds are the small, undeveloped growths on a plant stem from which leaves will emerge.
Before opening, they appear as compact nodules, often protected by scales.
Gardeners and botanists distinguish leafbuds from flower buds by their shape and position on the branch: The leafbuds are just starting to swell.
