ischial callosities

Primate rump cushions

Ischial callosities are the tough, often brightly colored sitting pads found on the buttocks of Old World monkeys and apes like baboons and macaques.

These hardened patches of skin cover the ischium—the bone you sit on—and allow the animal to rest comfortably on branches or rough surfaces for extended periods.
