ick factor
Measure of repulsiveness
The ick factor is the degree to which something provokes disgust or revulsion.
It often applies to things that are technically harmless but viscerally off-putting: The ick factor of eating insects keeps many Westerners from trying them.
Medical procedures, unfamiliar foods, and certain textures commonly carry a high ick factor.
The phrase acknowledges that rational acceptance doesn't eliminate gut-level aversion.
