hiring out

Letting for pay

Hiring out means making something or someone available for temporary use in exchange for payment.

When you hire out equipment, a vehicle, or property, you rent it to others: They hire out boats by the hour.

The phrase also applies to people offering their services or labor: She hires out as a freelance editor.

In this sense, it's the provider's perspective—you hire out what you own or can do, while others hire it from you.
