highway cleanup
Clearing road debris
Highway cleanup is the organized removal of litter and debris from roadsides, typically done by volunteer groups, civic organizations, or work crews as community service.
Groups that adopt a stretch of highway commit to regular cleanups and often get their name on a roadside sign: Our church does highway cleanup twice a year.
The term also applies to clearing accident debris or fallen branches.
