hidden bar
Concealed drinking establishment
A hidden bar is a drinking establishment that conceals its entrance or doesn't advertise its location, requiring patrons to know where to look.
The concept revives Prohibition-era speakeasies, when bars hid from law enforcement.
Modern hidden bars use unmarked doors, secret passwords, or entrances through other businesses as an aesthetic choice: The hidden bar is behind a bookcase in the pizza shop.
Also called a speakeasy.
