have-a-go

Take a shot

Have-a-go describes someone willing to attempt something, especially intervening in a crime or emergency despite lacking training: a have-a-go hero who tackled the mugger.

Chiefly British.

The term can be admiring or gently mocking, depending on whether the attempt succeeded or was foolhardy.
