hass
Popular avocado cultivar
Hass is the dominant variety of avocado, recognizable by its pebbly dark skin that darkens further when ripe.
Named after Rudolph Hass, who patented the cultivar in 1935, it accounts for most avocados sold commercially: I picked up some Hass avocados for guacamole.
Sometimes spelled Haas.
