hardiness zones
Climate growing maps
Hardiness zones are geographic regions classified by their average annual minimum temperatures, used to determine which plants can survive winter in a given area.
The USDA system divides North America into numbered zones from 1 (coldest) to 13 (warmest), each spanning ten degrees Fahrenheit.
Gardeners consult hardiness zones when selecting perennials: This rose is hardy to zone 5.
