happiness index
National wellbeing measure
A happiness index is a metric that attempts to quantify the well-being or life satisfaction of a population, typically at the national level.
Unlike purely economic measures like GDP, happiness indexes incorporate factors such as health, social support, freedom, and work-life balance: Bhutan pioneered the concept with its Gross National Happiness index.
The term also appears informally for any attempt to measure contentment: My personal happiness index has been climbing since I moved.
