hairstreaks
Small tailed butterflies
Hairstreaks are small butterflies, typically with delicate tail-like projections on the hindwings and fine streaky markings on the undersides.
Most species are brown or gray beneath, though some tropical varieties display iridescent blues or greens above.
They belong to the family Lycaenidae and are found worldwide, often near the specific trees or shrubs their caterpillars feed on.
