great gray owl
Northern forest predator
The great gray owl is a large owl of northern forests across North America and Eurasia, distinctive for its round facial disk and yellow eyes.
Despite its imposing appearance—it's one of the tallest owls—much of its bulk is feathers; it weighs less than the great horned owl.
It hunts rodents in meadows and clearings, often at dawn and dusk.
