flashing back
Recalling past events
Flashing back is returning mentally to an earlier time, especially when the return is sudden or involuntary.
Someone flashing back might be reliving a traumatic event or simply recalling a vivid memory: I keep flashing back to that conversation.
In film and literature, a narrative flashes back when it shifts to depict earlier events.
