false choice
Manufactured either-or situation
A false choice presents only two options when more exist, or frames alternatives as mutually exclusive when they aren't: It's a false choice between economic growth and environmental protection.
The term exposes flawed reasoning—someone insisting you must pick A or B when you could have both, neither, or C.
Also called a false dilemma.
