dumbness
Lack of intelligence
Dumbness is the state of being unable or unwilling to speak.
The oldest sense refers to muteness—the physical inability to produce speech, now largely replaced by "mute" to avoid confusion.
More commonly today, dumbness means stupidity or lack of intelligence: The sheer dumbness of the plan amazed everyone.
It can also describe a temporary speechlessness from shock: She was struck dumb by the news.
