drouth

Prolonged rainless period

Drouth is an older or regional variant of drought—a prolonged period without rain, or any severe shortage: The drouth killed half the cattle that summer.

The spelling persists in some American dialects, particularly in rural and Southern speech, and appears in older literature.

It rhymes with "mouth."
