dissident writers
Anti-regime literary voices
Dissident writers are authors who openly oppose or criticize the political system, government, or dominant ideology of their country, often at personal risk.
The term gained particular prominence during the Soviet era to describe writers like Solzhenitsyn and Havel who challenged communist regimes, but it applies broadly to any writer whose work defies authoritarian control.
Several dissident writers were imprisoned for their samizdat publications.
Their work often circulates underground or in exile when suppressed at home.
