dipped candle
Repeatedly coated taper
A dipped candle is one made by the traditional method of repeatedly dipping a wick into melted wax or tallow, building up layers with each immersion until the candle reaches the desired thickness.
This technique predates molded candles and produces tapers that are slightly irregular and often prized for their handcrafted appearance.
The colonial reenactors demonstrated how to make dipped candles over an open fire.
