deepset

Far back, shadowed

Deepset describes eyes that are set far back in the skull, creating shadowed sockets and a somewhat intense or brooding appearance: His deepset eyes gave him a perpetually thoughtful look.

The term occasionally applies to other things positioned deeply or firmly: deepset foundations, deepset beliefs.
