damage roll

Injury calculation throw

A damage roll is a dice roll in tabletop games that determines how much harm an attack inflicts.

After a successful hit, the player rolls specified dice—often determined by the weapon or spell used—to calculate the damage dealt to the target: The longsword does a d8 for the damage roll.

The term extends to video games with similar mechanics.
