curbside finds

Sidewalk salvage items

Curbside finds are discarded items left at the curb for trash collection that someone else retrieves and keeps.

The term reflects a culture of urban scavenging—furniture, electronics, books, and household goods set out by one person become treasures for another: I furnished half my apartment with curbside finds.

The practice is especially common in cities with dense housing and regular bulk pickup schedules.
