cross-examines
Interrogates opposing witness
Cross-examines is the act of questioning a witness who has already been questioned by the opposing side, typically in a legal proceeding.
The purpose is to test credibility, expose weaknesses, or elicit favorable information: The defense attorney cross-examines the prosecution's key witness.
Outside courtrooms, cross-examine means to question someone searchingly or aggressively: My mother cross-examined me about where I'd been all night.
