Mid-use odor mitigation
A courtesy flush is flushing the toilet immediately after defecating, before wiping, to minimize odor in a shared bathroom.
The practice acknowledges that others may be waiting or that the smell might escape: If you're going to be in there a while, at least do a courtesy flush.
