countercomplaint

Defendant's answering grievance

A countercomplaint is a complaint filed in response to another complaint, typically in legal contexts where a defendant answers a lawsuit by filing their own grievance against the plaintiff: The company responded to the discrimination suit with a countercomplaint alleging breach of contract.

Outside courtrooms, it describes any reactive grievance: Every criticism she raised was met with a countercomplaint from her husband.
