coquet
Play at romance
To coquet is to flirt or behave amorously without serious intentions—to toy with someone's affections.
The word carries a sense of playful manipulation: She coquetted with every man at the party.
Now somewhat old-fashioned, largely replaced by flirt.
The noun coquette (a flirtatious woman) remains more common than the verb.
