Collect on delivery, usually abbreviated COD, is a payment arrangement where the buyer pays when goods arrive rather than in advance.
The carrier or delivery person collects payment before releasing the package: The furniture store ships collect on delivery.
The term dates from mail-order commerce but applies to any transaction where payment happens at the moment of receipt.
