coal-rolling

Exhaust-blasting truck harassment

Coal-rolling is the practice of modifying a diesel truck to emit large clouds of black exhaust, often deliberately aimed at pedestrians, cyclists, or hybrid vehicles.

The modification bypasses emissions controls to produce maximum smoke.

The act is typically a provocation—an aggressive display of anti-environmentalism or general hostility: He coal-rolled a group of cyclists on the highway.
