brain-fart

Sudden thought glitch

A brain-fart is a sudden, temporary mental lapse—a moment when you forget something obvious, say something nonsensical, or make a foolish mistake you wouldn't normally make: Sorry, total brain-fart—I called you by your sister's name.

The term is informal and mildly crude, treating the mental glitch as an involuntary emission.
