blank gun
Loud theatrical weapon
A blank gun is a firearm designed to fire blank cartridges—rounds containing powder but no projectile.
Used in theater, film, military training, and starting races, blank guns produce the sound and flash of real gunfire without lethal effect: The director called for blank guns in the robbery scene.
At close range, the explosive discharge can still cause injury.
