best kept secret
Insider knowledge hoarded
A best kept secret is something excellent that remains largely unknown or underappreciated: This restaurant is the neighborhood's best kept secret.
The phrase often appears in recommendations, suggesting the speaker is sharing insider knowledge.
Despite the name, these "secrets" are usually things people want others to discover—the secrecy is incidental, not intentional.
