away mode
Not-home device state
Away mode is a setting on devices—thermostats, security systems, smart home equipment—that adjusts behavior when residents are absent.
An away mode on a thermostat saves energy by reducing heating or cooling; on a security system, it arms all sensors.
I set the house to away mode before vacation.
The term extends to people checking out mentally: Sorry, I was in away mode during that meeting.
