Western bias
First-world cultural preference
Western bias is the tendency to view the world through the lens of European and North American perspectives, treating Western history, values, and experiences as universal or default.
It appears in education, media, and research that center Western civilization while marginalizing other cultures: The curriculum showed Western bias by covering European history in depth while treating Asian and African civilizations as footnotes.
The term often arises in critiques of global institutions, academic disciplines, or news coverage that unconsciously privilege Western viewpoints.
