The L Word
Queer women's drama
The L Word is a euphemism for "lesbian" or "love," used when someone wants to reference the concept without saying it directly: Are you ready to say the L Word?
The phrase gained wider recognition as the title of a television drama about lesbian relationships that premiered in 2004.
More broadly, "the [letter] word" constructions allow oblique reference to taboo or charged terms—the F word, the N word, the C word.
