The Golem
Animated clay creature
The Golem is a creature from Jewish folklore—a figure made of clay or mud, animated through mystical means to serve its creator.
The most famous legend involves Rabbi Loew of Prague, who supposedly created a golem to protect the Jewish community.
In broader use, golem describes any artificial humanoid or a person who acts mechanically without independent thought: He moved through his tasks like a golem.
