SoundCloud rap
Lo-fi mumble music
SoundCloud rap is a style of hip-hop that emerged in the mid-2010s, named for the streaming platform where many of its artists first gained followings.
The genre is characterized by lo-fi production, heavy bass, distorted beats, and often mumbled or shouted vocals with emotionally raw lyrics touching on depression, drug use, and nihilism.
Artists like Lil Peep, XXXTentacion, and Juice WRLD exemplified the sound, which blended elements of emo, punk, and trap.
He got famous uploading SoundCloud rap before any label signed him.
